General Description: The principal purpose of this Category Manager position is to manage a softgoods category of Footwear Women's/Children's Casual Footwear merchandise in totality towards yearly key performance goals. These may include but not limited to; total sales, gross margin percent and dollars, GMROI, inventory turns, comp store sales, etc. Also, drives the product development process and strategy for the global assortment for its complete life cycle for all channels, budget management, functional operating plans, vendor management, and alignment of cross functional teams. Implement new business opportunities.

Essential Activities & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for development and execution of financial, assortment, and pricing strategies for selling channels.
  • Accountable for the development of the product assortment for all channels to support the global assortment strategy.
  • Responsible for executing private label product development and selecting branded merchandise to support financial goals.
  • Owns assortment planning, demand planning, and space planning for category pod.
  • Selects vendors and manages vendor relationships to maximize sales and profit, as well as negotiating purchases and pricing.
  • Ensures the category level analysis for product performance in all channels meets the expectations set forth by senior management.
  • Aligns cross functional teams (Planning and Inventory, Space Planning, etc.) as it relates to buying, inventory strategies, and weekly/monthly performance reviews Open to Buy.
  • Accountable for product lifecycle management for all channels.
  • Responsible for the adhering to the promotional event calendar, as developed by Marketing, for all channels and accountable for calendar management for the pod team.
  • Responsible for the training and development of the Assistant Category Managers.

Education & Experience:

  • Preferred: Bachelors Degree plus three to six years previous relevant experience
  • Minimum: Include a total of five to eight years previous relevant experience.
  • Experience in the following: Retail and Direct Experience; Product Development; Strong Negotiating Skills; Team Management, Inventory Control/Planning Knowledge.
